Sarah Ramsay

Sarah is the CEO & Co-owner with her husband Alex, of Dunedin precision CNC and additive manufacturer United Machinists. United manufacture components and assemblies for Australasia’s leading aerospace, medical, marine, defence and cinematography companies.

 

Since joining the business in 2019 Sarah has led the growth strategy to transform the business from local industrial job-shop to global advanced manufacturer. Overseeing a shift to real-time digital scheduling and production reporting, fully-automated 5 axis machining, robotic inspection, additive manufacturing and anodising.

 

Sarah’s approach to business transformation has been people first – she believes real time data and automation of processes enable greater transparency with the team and empowers them to initiate improvements.

 

Having a non-conventional education and career path, Sarah believes in creating equitable opportunities for young people and that good business is good for the community. That in the regions particularly, manufacturing is a cornerstone of our productivity and prosperity. This belief has driven her Governance career as an active angel investor, mentor and Chartered Professional Director; a founding Director of regional engineering collective SOREC; and former Chair of Mainland Angel Investors and Startup Dunedin.

 

She is also actively involved in industry working groups and committees such as Hanga-Aro-Rau the Workforce Development Council, the New Zealand Defence Industry Association and Callaghan Innovation’s Industry 4.0 Network.
