Sistema® Plastics, a New Zealand-based company, has evolved from a garage startup in Cambridge NZ to a global entity headquartered in Auckland, NZ employing over 700 people. The company is renowned for its BPA-free, innovative plastic storage systems, which are distributed to over 90 countries. The journey of Sistema underscores the significance of the founder Brendan Lyndsay’s bold decision-making, substantial investment, and a steadfast belief in one’s vision.
The Role of Automation
From its inception, Sistema prioritized automation and the need to be technically savvy to mitigate the challenges posed by high labour costs and geographical distance from key markets. Early on, the company invested in process improvements, larger dies, reduced cycle times, and 24/7 equipment maintenance. This approach laid the foundation for an efficient manufacturing process that could compete globally despite higher local costs.
